Outside The Box is a non-profit (501 c3) revolutionary performing arts festival showcasing the best of Boston and Massachusetts. Taking place on the Boston Common and City Hall Plaza, Outside The Box will shine a spotlight on Boston’s artistic talents over the course of nine days, from July 13-21, 2013.
Join the team of over 700 volunteers who will help make the inaugural Outside The Box Festival a rousing success! More than 200 performing arts groups will entertain audiences over the nine-day festival, and volunteer support is crucial.
We NEED YOUR HELP, so sign up today to join the FIRST team for this pioneering event.
All volunteers will receive an exclusive t-shirt, a special gift, and upon completion of scheduled shifts, an invitation to a private party held after the Festival.
It’s easy to volunteer! All you have do is:
You must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer.
Stage Area Service volunteers help where it is needed most – whether it’s making sure only authorized people are backstage, keeping refreshments stocked, helping with seating & crowd control, or whatever else pops up around the stage. Please indicate if you have a preference being backstage, or out in the crowd. Those volunteers working backstage will need to pass a background check.
If you enjoy providing first-class customer service, this is the job for you! We are looking for social, outgoing volunteers to provide assistance at the festival’s Information Stations. Volunteers working at Information Stations should become familiar with the layout of the festival and be able to: answer questions about performance times, location of vendors, ATMs, restrooms, phones, lost and found; and much more. (This information is provided in a handy book!) Job involves time spent on feet or sitting behind a table.
First impressions are critical, and Festival Ambassadors will set the tone for our festival visitors! We are looking for friendly, upbeat, outgoing and helpful volunteers to officially greet and welcome people to Outside the Box, hand out program guides, and provide direction – whether to a stage or an Information Station.
Support Services volunteers will act as the eyes and ears for the Boston EMS team that will be on-site providing medical assistance to festival guests. This job will keep you moving as you walk the crowd and alert EMS (by radio) of any potential medical situations. You might come across the occasional question, so you’ll be provided with a map of the site, so you can point folks in the direction of the nearest Information Station.
On-Call volunteers help where it is needed most at the time. On-call volunteers agree to be on-site and on-call during a specific period of time to fill-in as needed. On-call volunteers are very important to the changing demands of a busy festival. *On-Call volunteers must have a cell phone with them during their scheduled shift.
We are looking for friendly, out-going volunteers to work in one of two areas – either on-site assisting at the VIP tent, or at the host hotel, providing assistance to the Hospitality Coordinator. Duties may include welcoming guests as they arrive at the host hotel or as they arrive at the VIP tent (which will be located close to the Main Stage), serving as a source of information for guests, and making sure that all reasonable requests are met. When filling out the volunteer registration form, please indicate if you have an area preference.
By volunteers, for volunteers!! We are looking for friendly, organized volunteers to greet fellow volunteers, mark volunteer attendance in a provided ledger, distribute waivers and shirts to volunteers who didn’t attend orientation and direct volunteers to their shift location.
If you enjoy problem-solving, this is the job for you! Outside the Box sponsors have made a generous donation to support the Festival. We could use your help making sure they have a positive experience by assisting sponsors with set-up and teardown needs as well as checking on them occasionally during your shift to make sure that things are running smoothly.
We are looking for teachers, and other folks who have experience working with kids to assist with the various activities & programs geared towards our younger audience. For those teachers who would like to get involved prior to the Festival, we’d welcome suggestions on educational activities that might be appropriate for youngsters. All Activities Assistant volunteers will need to pass a background check.
